1 Merchant Sq
Paddington W2
Outline
The project involved a two-storey steel and glass structure, the purpose of which was to serve as a high quality marketing space for the planned Merchant Square residential tower.
Development
The construction was a steel frame and glass structure with a truss supported kalzip roof. Marketing would take place on the ground floor with replica elements of the apartments to be built on the top floor.
Within the space was a laser-cut porcelain floor with mirrored design on the ceiling, purpose made display joinery and a feature staircase. ghout, new electrical and lighting installations and new sanitaryware were fitted and installed.
There were a range of specialist fittings such as fumed Eucalyptus veneer joinery elements, Walnut timber panelling and high end book matched marble tiling to the bathrooms.
Challenges
Being D&B the design coordination of structural steel, trusses, curtain walling, glazing and kalzip became more than the sum of the parts.
All these packages had to be progressed with a tandem design approach before the buildings final loadings could be established.
With its sculpted design and shaped roof – and each truss having a different curve ratio – the build was demanding to coordinate and deliver.
Outcome
The project completed successfully on-time to a high standard and we were commended by the client for our approach, quality, safety and on-time delivery.
