Development
The existing 18th Century building with its classical Georgian architectural exterior was retained and refurbished.
The internal of the building was completely stripped out, back to just the external walls and floors, the roof of the South Wing of the building was removed and raised to create an additional floor within the roof structure. The existing basement within the building was extended and lowered to provide an additional apartment for the client as a change to the original project brief.
On what was the car park of the original office building we constructed ‘Albany Court’ a four storey concrete frame building to provide 9 new spacious apartments and under-croft parking.
Challenges
The challenges of working within an existing environment requiring complicated service arrangements was always going to test our ability to the full, this coupled with the complexity of removing an existing roof structure and reinstalling to mimic the same appearance whilst increasing height presented many problems to resolve and overcome. This is where our approach to proactively working with the design team shows the greatest results.
During the course of the project we also amended sequences and programming to give the client sectional completions that were not originally intended within the construction contract.
Outcome
44 Stunning apartments, finished to the highest of standards and building reinstated to its former glory… “it is what makes our work so satisfying”.
